Osteopathy is a health profession that focuses on providing care to patients of all ages, using manual therapy to aid in treating pain, increasing joint mobility and providing advice where necessary to support your recovery. Osteopath's use a holistic approach, looking at the whole body to find the cause of pain. In Australia all Osteopaths must be AHPRA registered, hold appropriate indemnity insurance and complete continued professional development each year.
You may wear comfortable clothing for easy movement, you may be asked to remove some items of clothing depending on the area being treated. A gown will also be provided.
Please also bring along any test results (X-ray, CT, MRI) and your health care or concession card if applicable. If you have a medicare referral from your GP then please bring this along too.
No you do not need a referral to see an Osteopath, however you may be eligible for a Medicare Chronic Care Program via your GP.
During your first consultation, your Osteopath will take a detailed medical history, perform a physical examination to assess your posture, mobility and the affected areas of your body through movement and palpation. Natalie may refer you to another health professional or back to your GP if appropriate. Natalie encourages you to ask questions throughout this process.
